Programmes at Persatuan Pendidikan Ilham

Our programmes are designed to help students build higher-order thinking, strong mathematical foundations, and confidence – while supporting teachers and schools with practical tools.

Core Programmes

Persatuan Pendidikan Ilham currently runs several flagship programmes that reach students, teachers, and schools across Malaysia.

Ilham HOTS Quiz

A national “Battle of the Brains” style quiz that focuses on higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) across key subjects. Students are challenged to analyse, reason, and apply concepts – not just recall facts.

  • For primary and/or secondary school students (based on yearly categories).
  • School-based selection followed by regional and national stages.
  • Emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork.

Ilham Algebra Competition

A structured competition that helps students build confidence in algebra through carefully graded questions and free support sessions. The focus is on understanding patterns, symbols, and logical reasoning.

  • Designed to support students who are new to algebra or want to go deeper.
  • Includes free tutorial sessions and learning materials.
  • Encourages schools to build long-term maths culture, not just exam scores.

Teacher Training & Workshops

Practical workshops and sharing sessions for teachers who want to strengthen HOTS-based teaching, design better questions, and guide students in competitions.

  • Focus on classroom strategies and question design.
  • Opportunities to share best practices with other teachers.

How our programmes fit together

Each programme plays a different role, but all of them are built on the same belief: students learn best when they are actively thinking, trying, and reflecting – not just memorising.

Schools can participate in a single programme, or work with Ilham to build a longer-term plan that combines competitions, learning resources, and teacher support.

For different groups

  • Students: HOTS Quiz and Algebra Competition.
  • Teachers: training, workshops, and programme briefings.
  • Schools: school-wide participation, hosting centres, and outreach.
  • Donors & partners: support to expand access to underserved communities.
